Our History and Roots

The Arya Samaj was founded in 1875 by the renowned social reformer Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Born in Gujarat, Swami Dayanand dedicated his life to reviving the true essence of Hinduism, which he believed had been corrupted over time by superstitions, idolatry, and oppressive social practices.

Inspired by the ancient Vedas, Swami Dayanand sought to establish a society based on the principles of truth, righteousness, and non-violence. He rejected the caste system, advocated for the education of girls, and campaigned against practices like child marriage and sati (widow burning).
